President

Rick Marzan is the Founder and President of the Great Pee Dee Hunt Club and Great Pee Dee Dreams, a nonprofit established in 2024. He resides in Charleston, South Carolina, and also spends time in Sweden, where his son lives.

Before founding the Hunt Club, Marzan made his mark in the pizza industry by opening Noah’s Antica Pizzeria (2012–2015) in South Carolina, named after his son. His path to entrepreneurship has been diverse—he played football at the University of Kentucky, transitioned into minor league baseball, worked in the corporate world, and later studied theater in New York.

Marzan co-starred in the 1988 comedy Bull Durham alongside Kevin Costner and Susan Sarandon, playing “Jose,” a superstitious player with a cursed glove and chicken-bone cross. He also appeared for two years on ER with George Clooney. He has a lengthy resume’, both in TV and Film. Despite spending 24 years in California, Marzan never felt truly at home there. His passion for pizza and the culinary arts was fueled by his mentorship with Pepe Miele, president of the North American branch of Vera Pizza Napoletana, an international organization that protects authentic Neapolitan pizza. “Pepe taught me the art of making Neapolitan pizza, and I became very passionate about the process,” Marzan recalls. In 2010, he drove cross-country to South Carolina with a business plan in hand and began building his culinary dream. Marzan’s pizzas stand out for their imported Italian tomatoes and flour, along with his use of a specialized dough mixer. His signature creation, the Pizza Noah, features tomato sauce, mozzarella, bacon, and blueberries. “It takes time to experiment with ingredients and water, but through trial and error I found what works. Instead of trying to do many things well, we aim to excel in one.” He applies this same philosophy to the Hunt Club and nonprofit. For Marzan, cooking is performance art: “When I’m cooking, it feels like being back on stage. I put my heart into it—it’s an art form.” At the Hunt Club, however, he finds a different kind of stage: “When I’m there, it’s about connecting with nature and God. It’s my sanctuary.”

Soon after founding the Hunt Club, Marzan launched the nonprofit Great Pee Dee DreamsSomething ignited in me after seeing so many veterans who had honorably served their country go without. Today, the organization hosts special events for wounded veterans, first responders, and Gold Star kids. “It’s been a wild success, and I never expected it to grow this fast. I’ve found my purpose.”
